MIDLOTHIAN, VA - The Chesterfield Police Department's Midlothian station was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after an artillery shell was found.
According to police, a resident brought the shell to the station and officers that work there were asked to evacuate as a precaution since crews did not know if the shell was live.
Personnel from the Naval Weapons Stations in Yorktown came up and took the shell, which is 105 mm and around 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. They don't believe the shell to be live.
Chesterfield Police would like to remind everyone that if you do find a shell like this, please do not remove it and drive it somewhere. Leave it where it is and call authorities.
