RICHMOND, VA - Richmond School Board member Shonda Harris-Muhammed opens up to 8News after her husband is busted for growing marijuana.
Demetrius Muhammed was arrested Tuesday after police seized a pot plant from the couples home on North Avenue. He was charged with one felony count manufacturing, distributing and selling marijuana.
"One of the first things I want to let my constituents know is I am not resigning from School Board as their sixth district representative," Harris-Muhammed says. "That is not an option."
Standing with her husband, Harris-Muhammed says despite the school board chair Jeffrey Bourne's suggestion that she spend all her time focused on her family right now, she will not be stepping aside.
She says she was surprised when police stormed her home Tuesday night and plucked a pot plant from the deck and had no idea this was going at her home.
"I had no idea that was there on my back porch," she says.
Her husband is taking responsibility.
"It was just neglectful judgment on my part," Demetrius Muhammed says.
