A portion of Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County was dedicated Friday to the State Police trooper who was shot and killed there earlier this year.
Signs announcing the Master Trooper Junius A. Walker Memorial Highway were erected Friday, including a smaller version accessible to the public at the southbound rest area at mile marker 55.
Walker was shot and killed at mile marker 45 while checking on a vehicle stopped on the side of the highway. Walker was 63 years old and a 35-year veteran of Virginia State Police.
The highway dedication was approved through the efforts of the Dinwiddie Board of Supervisors and the Commonwealth Transportation Safety Board. Friday's dedication was held at the I-85 southbound rest area located at mile marker 55 in Dinwiddie County.
