RICHMOND, VA -A Chesterfield man is facing charges after police say he pointed a laser at a State Police aircraft, temporarily blinding the pilot.
The incident happened just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday as Trooper-Pilot Adam Culbertson was flying a State Police Cessna in the area of Powhite Parkway and Courthouse Road.
State Police officials said a bright green laser light hit the cockpit, striking Culbertson's eyes, momentarily blinding him.
After regaining vision and making several passes through the area in an attempt to located the source of the laser, the same light hit the plane again.
Several minutes later, the laser source was discovered coming from the 1700 block of Westbury Ridge Drive in Midlothian.
After the investigation, 20-year-old Matthew L. Farr was charged with interfering with the operation of an aircraft, a misdemeanor.
The investigation continues. The pilot did not suffer any permanent eye damage.
