Police Continue to Search for Clues in Brendon Mackey Case
CHESTERFIELD - It's been about a month since the tragic death of 7-year-old Brendan Mackey.
But for now the question remains - Who shot the stray bullet that struck and killed him on July 4?
For weeks chesterfield county police and ATF have combed through neighborhoods around Brandermill concentrating their efforts within a two mile radius of where Mackey was struck.
So far investigators have taken some guns for testing which were obtained voluntarily.
"The family still needs an answer and we're determined to do everything we can to provide that answer for them," says Lt. Randy Horowitz, Chesterfield County Police. "We have two guns right now at the state lab being tested and we're still hopeful that we're going to get the information that we need."
But Horowitz says they're hoping someone that knows something comes forward.
"We're really depending on someone in the public to come forward and tell us what they saw or heard or what they know first-hand knowledge. "
The canvass encompasses thousands of homes. Authorities say they've gone through a little more than a third of the area. Monday they are going door to door in three more neighborhoods
"We're hopeful that by the time we've finished this evening we'll be over half way there."
