PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Sen. Tim Kaine is visiting a college campus Thursday and talk about education will share time with a discussion of U.S. military preparedness and particularly a looking congressional decision on whether to authorize a strike on Syria.
Virginia's Democratic junior senator will meet with cadets at Virginia State University's campus in Petersburg during a morning stop.
It's among the last he will make before the House and Senate end their late-summer recess next week with a vote on President Barack Obama's request that Congress authorize a punitive strike on the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad for its suspected use of chemical weapons Aug. 21 in a rebel-held suburb of Damascus, the Syrian capital.
Kaine, a Senate Armed Services Committee member, leans for supporting an attack on Syria.
