CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—Shell casings found off a walking trail in Brandermill are thought to be related to the shooting death of 7-year-old Brendon Mackey.
The casings were recently discovered near the Deer Meadow neighborhood—outside the search radius that Chesterfield Police had identified. While casings are typically matched to guns, not bullets, police will test the casings to see if they match the bullet that killed the young boy.
So far the Chesterfield Police have sent seven guns to the lab. Two have been tested and cleared; five are being examined.
Mackey died just over two months ago, after being hit by a stray bullet on the way to a fireworks show the night of July 4th. Police canvassed the Brandermill area for weeks, but the boy's killer has yet to be identified.
