RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)—Treat yourself to something sweet for a good cause; the Cookies for Kids' Cancer Bake Sale is this weekend.
Since 2008, Cookies for Kids' Cancer has focused on raising funds for pediatric cancer research.
"We're trying to raise money for cancer patients," said Sarah Newman, a founding member of Cookies for Kids' Cancer RVA Next Generation. "For kids mostly," she said, noting that much of cancer fundraising is geared toward adults.
Last year, the nonprofit's RVA Next Generation branch raised about $50,000. This year, its members hope to surpass that amount.
"It's just a really great opportunity and it's a great way to spend your time," said Kylee Hooper, another founding member, of her involvement with the organization. "It feels great to be able to help kids that aren't as fortunate."
The bake sale kicks off Saturday, Sept. 7 at various locations throughout Richmond. A preview event is being held Friday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. downtown at South 12th and East Main streets.
"We're really excited to help get everybody out there," Newman said.
