RICHMOND - A tree cut down in front of a Chimborazo Elementary School has created a stir in the Church Hill neighborhood, sparking calls to save the trees.
Many were worried more trees were coming down.
The tree in question had been dropping large limbs. A certified arborist to inspected the tree and found it had a fungal disease and a root rot and a danger to the students.
"If we were to have a storm or something else were to happen, it could fall over on a child," says Principal Cheryl Lewis Burke.
There are no plans to cut down any other trees. Instead the crews working there are actually adding to the schools outdoor garden.
New grass will be planted. All of this thanks volunteers and donations from Capitol One.
