RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Ken Cuccinelli, Virginia's Republican nominee for governor, shares the billing Saturday night with another tea party hero, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, at an evening gala for the socially conservative Family Foundation in Richmond.
Cruz is the leading Senate proponent of using the stalled congressional debate over funding authorization for the federal government as leverage for defunding the Democratic-backed 2010 health care overhaul law they call "Obamacare."
Cruz waged a 21-hour filibuster last month in support of defunding the Affordable Care Act in which he read a Dr. Seuss children's fable to his children from the Senate floor.
Cuccinelli, who sued to have the law overturned in 2010 and favors its repeal, called on Congress last week to restore government funding, then try to defund and dismantle the health overhaul law.
