PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC)—A total of four buildings caught fire early Monday morning as flames from an abandoned house near the intersection of Sycamore and Wythe streets spread to three other structures.

The West Wythe Street complex houses Bland Florist, an small business which has thrived in Petersburg for nearly 50 years. Fire investigators believe the building and contents are a complete loss.

Crews had the fire under control by 1:41 a.m. and no one was injured; one of the flaming buildings was an apartment complex, but all of its residents evacuated safely.

One firefighter received minor back injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment,
and has been released. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
