8News Meteorologists Go Over the Edge for Special Olympics VA

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND (WRIC)—Later this week, 8News meteorologists Tim Pandajis and Katie Dupree will go over the edge for a good cause; they'll be rappelling 25 stories down the SunTrust bank in downtown Richmond.

Over the Edge Richmond—an extreme sporting fundraiser for Special Olympics Virginia—takes place on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18. Special Olympics Virginia President Rick Jeffrey stopped by the 8News studio Tuesday afternoon to speak with anchor Kerri O'Brien about the thrilling event.

"It's just a wonderful, wonderful fundraiser; we kind of have the market cornered on extreme fundraisers," Jeffrey said.

The 2013 event is full, but registration is already open for those wishing to participate in 2014.

"Our athletes face challenges for a lifetime," Jeffrey said. "Yours will last only four or five minutes on Thursday or Friday, and you'll help enormously."

Tim and Katie are expected to rappel at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
