Woman Accused of Vandalizing Lynchburg Doughboy

Posted: Updated:

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - An Amherst woman faces charges of vandalizing a World War I memorial in Lynchburg.
Media outlets report that Lynchburg police arrested 21-year-old Jessica Nicole McCrickard last week. She's charged with destruction of property and petit larceny. Both charges are misdemeanors.
City employees discovered on Oct. 4 that the bronze Doughboy statue's bayonet had been broken off.
Police say the bayonet was discarded in the James River. McCrickard is cooperating with police in an attempt to recover the bayonet.
It's the second such incident in as many years. The last time the statue was vandalized, the broken bayonet was found propped up by it.
