GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WRIC)—Brides Against Breast Cancer, an affiliate of the Center for Building Hope in Sarasota, Fla., stopped in Richmond on Saturday on its "Nationwide Tour of Gowns."
For those in the market for a wedding dress, Virginia Center Commons was the place to be on Oct. 19; gowns were on sale for as much as 85 percent off their retail value.
"Brides Against Breast Cancer is here at the Virginia Center Commons for Paint the Mall Pink and the month of October," said Kelsey Anderson of Brides Against Breast Cancer. "Proceeds go to raise money for free support services for people impacted by cancer."
Between 2000 and 2004, nearly 24,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in Virginia alone. According to the Virginia Department of Health, one out of eight women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in her life.
Other breast cancer awareness events, like the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, will be held all month long in the greater Richmond area.
