CHARLOTTESVILLE - Around 11 p.m. Friday night 16-year-old Fiona Erskine's parents say their daughter went outside to take pictures of the moon and never came back.
Her dad went outside to look for her and found her phone in the grass with pictures of the moon on it, but no sign of her.
Soon she was reported missing to police and the national database, and info and pictures posted on twitter and Facebook were retweeted and shared with thousands, her mother saying she was sure she was abducted.
Fiona had been missing for eleven hours before she was found and brought back home the next day.
What happened in those eleven hours is still a mystery.
Fiona's father says they are at just the beginning of a long process of recovery and healing and that they have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from neighbors, friends and community. They are grateful for everyone's help and prayers.
They said they couldn't comment further as there is an active investigation.
Meanwhile police aren't saying anything beyond they are investigating this as a possible abduction.
