HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—On Tuesday, a Henrico woman pleaded guilty to extorting a pastor for sex acts she performed nearly a year ago.
In December 2012, Chris Allen Phillips, a pastor at Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church, paid Tonya Farnsworth $200 for oral sex after responding to an ad on Backpage.com. In January Farnsworth accused him of stealing $550 from her and threatened to release photos of their sexual encounter if he didn't pay up.
Farnsworth repeatedly asked Phillips for money, taking more than $100,000 from him throughout the next three months. According to court documents, he dropped money off in an SUV parked outside Farnsworth's West End Drive home five to seven days a week through March.
After Phillips eventually contacted police about Farnsworth's demands, she was located in Tampa in April. Farnsworth claimed her boyfriend was behind the scam and gave her some of the money to purchase pills.
Phillips was arrested for embezzling church funds. Farnsworth was initially charged with two counts of extortion, but prosecutors dropped one charge in exchange for her guilty plea.
Farnsworth is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
