Overweight Trick-or-Treaters to Receive Letter in Lieu of Candy

Posted: Updated:

WEST FARGO, N.D. (WRIC)—Instead of handing out candy to trick-or-treaters on Thursday night, a North Dakota woman will distribute letters to children she believes are overweight and obese.

"I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight," she said during a radio interview. "I think it's just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just ‘cause all the other kids are doing it."

The woman ended her note saying, "My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits."

Doctors say it's important to remember that one's physical appearance isn't necessarily indicative of one's health.
