FORT LEE (WRIC) - The 54th Quartermaster Company from Fort Lee got a hero's farewell from family and friends Wednesday afternoon.
The soldiers are deploying to support operation enduring freedom.
"I feel ready," says Gabriel Galdeano. "I'm ready to do what I need to do."
It's bittersweet for families as they support their loves ones but their also hearts break that this deployment means a six-month separation.
"I'm excited, but yet I'm leaving my husband and two kids behind," says Eternity Berrious. "They know of it but don't understand the drastic concept of momma being gone. They'll realize it once I'm gone that I won't be coming back for a little while."
For some soldiers, this deployment is a first. Others have been down this road before.
All doing it now for friends, family, strangers, they're serving our country.
The 54th Quartermaster Company is one of the army's only two active duty mortuary affairs units.
