LAX Shooting Has RIC Travelers on Edge

Posted: Updated:

SANDSTON (WRIC) - The shooting at LAX Friday afternoon is not impacting travel at Richmond International Airport.

It's business as usual but word of the shooting inside an airport has travelers nervous.

"That's kind of frightening it just makes you kind pay attention to your surroundings," says Shane Wilson.

Travelers coming and going at Richmond International Airport Friday are feeling a little on edge after learning a gunman walked up to a TSA checkpoint like this one and opened fire.

Krista Aldama, a traveler who happens work in the physical security industry, says our freedom is at risk but she knows we can only secure so much.

"I have worked in K - 12 schools providing security cameras," she says. "You can lock it down, you can put bullet proof windows in, you can have an Air Marshall example in the school, but you cannot stop people from getting a gun."

At Richmond International Airport and at most airports around the country, there's that vulnerable area between the curb and the TSA checkpoint where anyone can walk freely around.

After the shooting at LAX, some are asking if that needs to change.
