RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A former federal corrections officer has admitted accepting a bribe from an inmate and smuggling marijuana and cigarettes into a prison in Prince George County.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports 53-year-old Jeffery T. Jones of Colonial Heights pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Richmond to two counts in a nine-count indictment.
Jones was an officer at the Federal Correctional Complex Petersburg. The indictment says the scheme occurred over a three-month period last year.
Inmate Patrick W. Gregory also pleaded guilty Tuesday to bribing a public official and a conspiracy charge.
Jones and Gregory each face up to 20 years in prison and are scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 14.
Another inmate charged in the case has a hearing scheduled for later this week.
