Operation "Shot House" Busts Six Petersburg Homes Selling Alcohol

Posted: Updated:

PETERSBURG (WRIC) - The Tri-Cities Regional Strike Force, made up of area police officers, conducted Operation "Shot House" to investigate nearly 100 complaints received from residents living in the area.

The task force targeted six nuisance homes within the city of Petersburg for involvement in the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages.

"They call us for noise violations.. Shots fire calls. Those type of things. Things that the public sees as quality of life issues," says Capt. Brian Braswell. "We don't have to stop at one. We can kind of flip flop and keep going. Get 'em taken care of in one night... And everybody is safe."

Results of a three month investigation revealed evidence regarding the sale of illegal alcohol at six locations: 123 Mars Street, 637 S. West Street, 672 Pegram Street, 928 Rome Street, 126 and 132 S. Little Church Street.

Petersburg Police Chief John I. Dixon, III released a statement that said "There has been a noticeable difference already in a decrease in emergency and nuisance calls to the targeted neighborhood. We encourage citizens from the entire area to alert police to issues to help resolve them."

The operation netted six arrests after the detainment of over 40 people found between the six locations.  Authorities seized liquor, beer, moonshine, drugs and firearms from the six homes searched.

Petersburg police believe there were no minors involved.

The Tri-Cities Regional Strike Force is comprised of approximately 75 officers from the Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Petersburg Bureau of Police, Department of Corrections, Hopewell Police Department and Colonial Heights Police Department.

This is one of several operations conducted by the Tri- Cities Regional Strike Force since its inception earlier this year.
