The Grand Illumination, Richmond's Christmas tradition is Friday December 6th at the James Center in downtown.
And 8News is on the Move! We are taking the live evening newscasts on the road to the Grand Illumination this year, join us at the event, or on air beginning at 5pm this Friday.
The public is invited to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the simultaneous lighting of a the Downtown Richmond skyline, a huge Christmas tree and a giant herd of illuminated reindeer.
There will be vendors, displays indoors and out, carriage rides, live music and loads of fun for the whole family.

James Center is very excited to present Kings of Swing as our featured performance. Our entertainment includes: The Greater Richmond Children's Choir, The American Youth Harp Ensemble, Characters from the Nutcracker Cast, Characters from 'Twas the Night Before
Christmas, Snow Bear, the VCU Trombone Choir, Singer Patsy Butler, the Virginia Piedmont & Central HO Model Railroad Club and much more. Our Kids Stage in front of One James Center has a new band this year! We welcome Big Bang Boom! to perform for the entire hour!
For a second year, James Center is bringing awareness to Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). SCAN will be at Grand Illumination collecting toys for over 300 Richmond area children. During the holiday season, these children will be coming to James Center so their parents or guardians can "shop" for gifts. From Grand Illumination night until December 16, please bring unwrapped gifts for kids ages 0-17 to the collection sleigh located in Three James Center Lobby.
On Friday, December 6, 2013: 10th Street will be closed from 9 am - 10 pm from the Parking Deck to Cary Street. The Parking Garage will remain accessible from Canal Street onto 10th Street. The parking lane on Cary Street will close at 9 am and will remain closed until 12 am.
$3.00 parking is available at the parking deck on the corner of 10th & Canal Streets after 4:00 p.m.
