CHESTERFIELD (WRIC) –Chesterfield Fire responded to a working apartment fire at the Colonial Ridge Apartment Complex on the 2700 block Martingale Road.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the basement window. The building was evacuated and  one occupant was treated for a minor burn injury to the arm. Eight people were displaced, including five children.

The fire was quickly under control and crews are assessing damage to the other apartments. Authorities say child knocked over a lamp, which landed on curtains, causing them to go up in flames.

This is not the first fire at this apartment complex. Colonial Ridge had a major fire there in April 2011, where 12 apartments were destroyed and 44 people were displaced after a two-alarm blaze spread quickly. It took 50 firefighters and nearly 40 minutes to get the apartment fire under control.
