HANOVER, Va. (AP) - A former youth minister in Hanover County faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that 51-year-old Chris Allen Phillips entered his plea Monday in Hanover Circuit Court. Sentencing is set for Feb. 24.
Prosecutors say 51-year-old Chris Allen Phillips embezzled more than $87,000 from Mechanics Advent Christian Church. He used the money, along with about $75,000 of his own money, to pay a woman who was extorting him.
Tonya Farnsworth pleaded guilty to extortion in October.
Prosecutors say Farnsworth threatened to go public about a sexual relationship with Phillips after he answered an online advertisement for her services.
