UPDATE: Attempted Abduction at VCU was Falsely Reported

UPDATE: The VCU Police Department announced Monday afternoon that following an extensive investigation, which included interviews, review of video footage and analysis of electronic data, that the incident was "unfounded" and falsely reported.

 

RICHMOND (WRIC)—The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction that occurred on campus Sunday evening.

At 6:20 p.m. on Dec. 1, a white male suspect approached the female victim near an alley on the 300 block of Hancock Street and asked her if everything was OK. He then grabbed her by the arm and tried to pull her into a dark-colored SUV. The victim was able to break free of his grasp, pepper spray the suspect and ride away on her bike.

The suspect did not display a weapon and no one was injured during the incident.  

The suspect is 25 to 30 years old and wore jeans. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact VCU Police at 804-828-1234.
