LYNCHBURG, Va. (WRIC)—Lynchburg Police have confirmed the body they found in the woods Wednesday is that of 18-year old Jamisha Gilbert.
The news that this community hope they wouldn't have to hear was confirmed today. The body found just behind a cemetery in Lynchburg is in fact that of Jamisha.
Now family and friends say they just want answers.
"She was a fun loving girl," says mother Norma Gilbert-Eldridge. "Jamisha was exceptional."
For Gilbert-Eldridge, Jamisha will be the third child she has had to bury.
"I'm no stranger to tragedy with my children, unfortunately," she says.
She says Jamisha was a standout student, graduating with honors from Heritage High School in Lynchburg who had aspirations to be a lawyer.
"She was planning to go to the University of Maryland two years after CVCC."
Jamisha's mother is hoping some of her many questions will soon me answered.
Lynchburg police have confirmed that Jamisha's boyfriend was questioned about the disappearance and sources familiar with the investigation say he was even polygraphed.
But police still say they have no one in custody, and are not considering anyone a suspect at this time.
As for Jamisha's mother, she says God's strength is what is getting her through this tragedy.
"If it was not for him being on my side, I would crumble like anyone else."
Jamisha's mother says she wants Jamisha buried in Maryland with her other siblings, but she says she can't afford a proper burial. She says she will be asking her local community for help. You can help Jamisha's family here: http://helpsavethenextgirl.com.
