RICHMOND (WRIC) - Detectives say they believe that the security guard that was viciously attacked at the old GRTC bus depot last month was actually stalked before being attacked.
Security guard Jack Newsom had swollen eyes, bloody lips and bruised cheeks and nose after he was suddenly attacked while working security. His wallet was stolen before the suspect took off.
The story inspired many to donate money to help Newsom, who's doing much better.
Newsom says he doesn't remember much about that night, which is why police are now asking for the community's help.
Detective Joseph Fultz says according to surveillance video they have of the suspect, it looks like he was stalking Newsom before the attack. He says he believes this was a robbery and that someone may have seen something.
"It is difficult to sometimes put things together when the man was injured the way he was, he doesn't remember much," he says. "We know some people from the community from some things we're looking at may have ridding by and may have seen something and we would request that they would help us out."
While Newsom says he's doing better, he hasn't fully recovered.
"Once in a while I'll have a little bit of pain up here," he says pointing to his face.
When asked if he's hopeful police will find the person that did this to him, he says "it's up to God now to what he does."
