Virginia Tech to Announce New President Friday

Posted: Updated:

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech is set to announce its 16th president.
The university has scheduled a news conference for Friday to introduce President Charles W. Steger's (STEE'-gur's) successor. He announced his retirement after 14 years in June but agreed to remain in Blacksburg until a new president was named.
Steger is credited with many achievements during his tenure, but his presidency also encompassed the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
That was the killing of 32 students and faculty in April 2007. Student-gunman Seung-Hui Cho (sung-wee joh) killed himself after the rampage.
