JARRATT, Va. (WRIC)—A Petersburg man faces three charges in connection with the shooting death of a Sussex County teenager in September.
Around 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, the Sussex County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police responded to a residence on the 26000 block of Jefferson Road in Jarratt. Tyler Givens, 15, of Jarratt, had been shot and died at the scene. A handgun was recovered at the residence.
On Nov. 18, 24-year-old Garrick Lewis turned himself in to the Sussex County Sheriff's Office and was charged with involuntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm in an occupied building and reckless handling of a firearm.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Chesapeake Field Office continues to investigate the incident.
