HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—No one was injured in an early-morning fire that ripped through the Boardwalk restaurant in Henrico County's north side on Monday.

At 12:39 a.m. on Dec. 16, the Henrico County Division of Fire responded to a blaze at the Boardwalk restaurant at 2106 Henderson Ave., near West Broad Street and Libbie Avenue. Heavy fire came from the kitchen; flames also spread through the roof of the single-story structure.

The Boardwalk was closed at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

The owners say they're not sure what's next for them but they're certainly thankful for all of the support they've gotten from their customers.

"I just can't believe that it's tore up the way it is," says owner Eunice Morrison. "It's unbelievable."

The Boardwalk has been a family-run business for 17 years. Eunice, her husband John and their daughter Janet run the hot dog stand.

They got the call a little after midnight from a customer.

"She said, ‘you need to get here. The Boardwalk is really, really on fire,'" Eunice says.

"This is a very heavy-structured trailer," John Morrison says. "It's got three-quarters floor in it, steel ceilings, and it's destroyed. It's amazing what that fire did to it."

The fire marshal's office says the fire started in the kitchen by a refrigeration unit. They don't know the exact cause, but the building is a total loss.

The Morrisons say they're taking it one day at a time. Costumers and friends have been showing up for support and some are even donating money.

"She says, 'it's not much, but it'll help.' And she left and she gave me 18 dollars," John Morrison says. "It's just great. It's Christmas."

"We're strong people," says Janet Morrison. "So I think we'll be fine. We're pretty tight, we're a great family."

The Morrisons don't own the actual building, so it's up to the landlord to see whether or not they'll rebuild or not.

In the meantime, the family hopes to continue to cater their famous hot dogs.
