RICHMOND (WRIC) - The Richmond Flying Squirrels have announced the name of its new craft beer will be named Chin Music.
The team partnered with Center of the Universe Brewing Company in Ashland to create the beer that will be available at The Diamond and throughout the region.
Fans were asked to help name the amber lager through an online and text message contest. The finalists for the name of the beer were: Brush Back, Chin Music, Hanging Curve, Knee Buckler and Perfect Game.
"A lot of people liked Knee Buckler and Chin Music, it was probably down to those two," says The Flying Squirrels' Todd "Parney' Parnell.
The name "chin music" plays tribute to an old baseball slang term meaning a pitch that's thrown near a batter's face.
Chin Music will hit the market on March 1, 2014. The brew won't be limited to just the ballpark. It'll be available year round at local bars and restaurants.
"It is a Vienna style lager so basically an amber lager going to be nice in crisp a little bit lower alcohol, it will have some caramel flavors to it but nothing too in your face," says Chris Ray, Co-owner of Center of the Universe Brewing Company.
The Squirrels also announced they are adding a three three hole putt putt course to the Diamond. You can see pictures of it here: http://www.milb.com/photos/gallery.jsp?content_id=64103454&sid=t3410
