Mega Millions Jackpot Soars to $636 Million

Posted: Updated:

FORT LEE (WRIC) - The Mega Millions estimated jackpot has soared to $636 million, making it the second largest jackpot in U.S. history.

With all the hype over the huge Jackpot for the Mega Millions, one lucky couple from Fort Lee is already celebrating winning $1 million in Saturday's Powerball Drawing.

And believe it or not they are feeling lucky and plan on trying their luck again tonight.

Maggie Marcelli and her husband, David, took home a big check for a big prize after matching five numbers correct in Saturday night's Powerball drawing.

"I ran upstairs and I shook him and I was like I think we won the lottery, I think we won."

Maggie says she has been looking for a full time job, but not anymore.

"I'm not going to look for a full time job anymore. I am going to keep doing my little business I do at home."

David is stationed at Fort Lee and says that's where he plans to stay.

"I plan on staying in the military until I hit my 20 and retire after that," he says. "No plans on quitting or anything like that."

And with a kiss and cool million bucks in their pocket, David says he has high hopes for Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing.

"I think we will be fair weather fans and play," he says.

Lottery officials pushed up the drawing to $636 million because of strong ticket.

Everyone has their own strategy, but one woman (who asked not to be named) says she's confident her strategy is the winning one.

"She just had a dream last night of numbers so she said to go with those to see if it won."

Others hope the Easy Pick option will make their dreams come true.

"In hopes of a dream, my family and my friends will never have to worry about money again, and naturally I will donate to the church," says Michael Liverpool.

The jackpot is the second largest jackpot in US history. It's been rolling over since the rules were changed in October.

The odds of winning are 1 in 259 million and if no one wins Tuesday, the jackpot will soar even higher to roughly $950 Million.
