FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC)—A 23-year-old man is facing a charge of felony child abuse after allegedly harming his girlfriend's infant.
At 9 a.m. on Dec. 17, Fredericksburg Police responded to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for a report of a 4-month-old baby in the Emergency Department with multiple fractured ribs and other injuries. The baby's grandmother brought him to the hospital.
An investigation revealed that the baby has been living with his mother and her boyfriend in a room at the Dunning Mills Inn on Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg.
The boyfriend, William Schmuhl, of no fixed address, was charged with felony child abuse and is incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
Fredericksburg Police continue to investigate the incident.
