RICHMOND (WRIC) - Young patients at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU are the latest Internet sensations.
Patients and staff at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU show their inner champion lip syncing Katy Perry's hit song "Roar."
"It was really fun making it with the patients," says recreation therapist Vernita Jones. "We all got to get into a different character."
Jones says this video was something patients and Facebook friends wanted to do to get everyone together and celebrate the kids' strength.
VCU basketball players even joined in.
"Despite whatever limitations they have, a smile is free," Jones says.
And there are plenty of smiles in the video along with dancing and fist pumping.
These kids are survivors and, as the song says, fighters and champions too.
This video is racking up views on YouTube and is part of the hospital's "12 Days of Holiday Cheer" campaign, which challenges the community to spread cheer.
The video focuses on what they can do instead of what they can't.
And that's reason enough to roar.
