RICHMOND (WRIC) - Wednesday night was the last time parents in Richmond had a chance to weigh in on who the next superintendent would be.
Those parents even got a chance to personally ask the candidates questions.
Hundreds of people showed up at Albert Hill Middle School to meet candidates for themselves and to see what they are all about.
Some people walked away still not satisfied, but others say the candidates are great prospects.
One by one the candidates took the stand to face concerned parents, frustrated teachers and board members who are looking for approval from the public.
Mother Mary Gresham was blunt and aired the dirty laundry at her daughter's high school.
"My daughter went to high school this year, and she waited in the auditorium over two weeks to get her schedule straight, I couldn't speak to a counselor or a principal during that time. That's ridiculous."
The questions went on for hours.
Dr. Dana Bedden from Irving, Texas talked about bringing back the arts and strengthening science technology, engineering and math programs.
Dr. Anthony Jackson, a superintendent at a school system in North Carolina talked about charter schools and how they could benefit a community if implemented the right way.
And Dr. Calvin Watts, who is currently an Assistant Superintendent in a school system in Georgia, addressed a little girl by name, answering a question about SOLs and his vision of getting kids to remember what they've learned.
"I would like to see a system that is strong at its core," says parent Sarah Widmer. "Where we are good in our basics."
The new superintendent will be announced on Monday, but some believe there are three great candidates who will be ready to hit the ground running in day one.
"One of the things I can say with absolute confidence, any of these three candidates can do the job. No question about it," says School Board member Donald Coleman. These are outstanding gentlemen who have proven themselves over time."
