Frank the Cutest Dog Ever Helps Raise Money for Richmond Animal League

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND (WRIC) - Richmond Animal League was among 33 winners of the Petco Foundation Holiday Wishes Grant Campaign.

There were more than 4,500 applicants, but in the end, a miracle puppy helped RAL bring home the prize.

Frank the Cutest Dog Ever is definitely not camera shy and why should he be?

Frank and his remarkable story of survival helped Richmond Animal League get an early Christmas gift that will keep on giving.

"This story and the work RAL is doing is truly phenomenal," says Petco Foundation Spokesperson Lee Domaszowec. "We were blown away."

Lee and Stacy Metz explain their pup frank was born with water on the brain.

RAL saved frank from euthanasia and matched him up with foster mom Toni Mark.

"He was the same goofy puppy that his siblings were," Marks says.

Mark knew with some love, time and hope, the perfect forever family would come along. That happened four months ago, when VCU nurse Stacy Metz made the connection.

Metz works with pediatric neurosurgeons and many of Metz's young patients have the same condition as frank. She knew it was just meant to be.

Frank's in training now to be a therapy dog for kids dealing with their diagnosis. if frank can overcome the challenge, they certainly can too.

"It really makes it nice that they can relate."

This special dog got a second chance and now his story and the grant received will help RAL continue saving lives.

"If it weren't for this type of funding, we wouldn't have been able to have frank and help him even though he's so unique and so special," Mark says.

Lee Metz's uniform is a firefighter and you'll often find frank with him at community events.

Frank is so busy giving back that he has his own Facebook page and quite a few fans.
