HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC)—The Hopewell Police Department has arrested three suspects in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a Walgreen's store last Saturday.
At 10:06 p.m. on Dec. 14, officers responded to the Walgreen's at 3901 Oaklawn Blvd. for a report of an armed robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects entered the business while a third remained outside. One of the suspects demanded money from the clerk, displaying a handgun. Another suspect attempted to rob an unsuspecting customer who was near the cash register. The thieves then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. No one was injured.
Days later, on Dec. 19, Hopewell Police announced they had arrested one juvenile and two adults in connection with the incident.
Juvenile Petitions are pending for robbery and conspiracy to commit a robbery for a 15-year-old, of Spring Grove.
Maurice Jerome Pettaway Jr., 19, of Hopewell, was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a robbery.
Joseph Oliver Giles, 41, of Hopewell, was charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm being a convicted felon.
Hopewell Police Chief John Keohane said, "Investigators worked diligently to get these dangerous offenders off the street. We will continue to focus on these types of incidents for quick resolution, to ensure the safety of our community."
