Government Van Crashes into Fort Lee Popeyes

Posted: Updated:

FORT LEE, Va. (WRIC)—Fort Lee Military Police are investigating after an Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) van crashed into the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 1431 Mahone Avenue on Christmas Eve.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Dec. 24. It appears that the driver accidentally put the vehicle in drive instead of reverse, and drove straight into the fast food restaurant.

Only the manager was in the restaurant at the time of the crash. Though no one was injured, the van caused structural damage to the Popeyes, which will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The AAFES-managed restaurant will remain closed until further notice for repairs.
