RICHMOND (WRIC)—Richmond Police are seeking the public's help in finding a 15-year-old girl and her 2-month-old baby, who both went missing on Christmas Eve.
Bertha Romero-Curbelo, of the 4000 block of Britannia Road, left her family's home with the infant shortly before noon on Dec. 24. She does not have legal custody of the child. The infant's grandmother, Yoelia, is the baby's legal guardian.
The grandmother says baby Natalia is sick with a cough and a fever and she worries about her 15-year-old daughter's ability to care for the young baby.
Though police do not believe Romero-Curbelo would harm herself or her child, they are concerned about their safety. Yoelia says since Bertha took off with the baby, she's in violation of her probation, and police may now charge her with felony kidnapping when they find her.
The teen was last seen walking in the direction of Hopkins Road, carrying the baby in her arms. Romero-Curbelo has shoulder-length curly hair, and was last seen wearing a black jacket with a gold peace sign on the back, blue jeans and black boots.
Anyone with information about the pair's whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Metro Richmond at 804-780-1000.
