HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—A wanted man was hospitalized Thursday after he jumped into the Chickahominy River in an attempt to avoid being served a felony warrant.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, deputies from the Hanover County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve a felony warrant to Patrick Joseph Hooker, who had threatened to burn down a house. When deputies approached his residence on the 10300 block of Cedar Lane, Hooker escaped on foot.
Hanover County deputies chased Hooker until he jumped into the Chickahominy River and swam across to the Henrico County side. Then, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office contacted the Henrico County Police Division to coordinate efforts to locate Hooker.
The Henrico SWAT team found Hooker in a structure behind a residence on the 10800 block of Winfrey Road.
Hooker was hospitalized for treatment related to exposure to the elements and is currently incarcerated at Pamunkey Regional Jail with no bond.
