DINWIDDIE (WRIC) - Elite Contracting Group has brought the property that used to be Rohoic Elementary School.
The former elementary school is located in the heart of the business community in Dinwiddie and county leaders say this new deal is going to help the area grow even more.
Rohoic Elementary School has been vacant since 2007, and county leaders worked to figure out the best way to utilize this property.
Elite Contracting recently stepped up and brought the 21 acre site for more than $500,000 to make this location its company's headquarters.
"They're going to spend approximately $2 million and there will be some space within the building that will be up for lease opportunities for small businesses to be apart," says Dr. Mark Moore, Board of Supervisors.
Another big bonus for Dinwiddie is that the property hasn't been on the tax roll since the mid-1960s and now this new deal with Elite Contracting will generate $45,000 a year in revenue for the county.
"Having no revenue and going to $45,000, it represents about one fourth of a penny on our tax rate of 79 cents on the real estate tax rate."
It may not sound like much, but county leaders are focused on their continue growth. Big businesses have already come and they want to keep that momentum going.
"Amazon has done a wonderful job, and it has brought a lot of people and businesses to their area/corridor."
Renovations on the new elite contracting site are expected to start in the next couple weeks and should about two years to complete. This move should bring an additional 25 jobs to the county.
