RICHMOND (WRIC)—Central Virginians woke up to a light dusting of snow Thursday morning, causing several area school systems to open late.
The cold front is struggling to push east of our region, and as a result, the cold air has caught up to the moisture and changed over to some light to moderate snow. Accumulations will be minor, but could still impact your morning commute. Snow showers will come to an end early this morning, and the weather will gradually become mostly sunny.
Thursday will be chilly and breezy, with highs in the mid 40s. To round out the work week, expect a mix of sun and clouds on Friday and milder temperatures, climbing into the low 50s.
Several more pieces of energy will dive out of the northwest this weekend, and what little moisture they do have will be squeezed out for the most part over the mountains. This isn't to say we won't see a few more snowflakes flying both early Saturday morning and Sunday morning as well, but no significant accumulation is expected.
By Monday, temperatures rebound back to near 60 degrees. Our next storm system will try and develop by Tuesday or Wednesday. There are strong signals of something brewing, but just how close to the coast things get organized is the biggest question, so it bears watching. What we do know is that behind the storm, wherever it forms, it'll pull down another blast of arctic air reaching us by the end of next week.
