CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—The slippery secondary roads are the reason why schools in many districts are closed Thursday.
Some of the snow melted but freezes overnight. Drivers who venture out have to be careful.
"You just have to go slow, because front wheel drive … nothing helps when it's ice," says Betsy Smith.
These snow- and ice-covered roads gave kids yet another day from the classrooms.
"It's been good though, having a break," says Sean Hallinan.
"I like my house to be the place where all the kids hang out, but they are eating everything," says Diann Pearson.
VDOT'S goal was to plow every road in the county—or at the very least put down salt and sand —within 48 hours after the snow ended. But there's a chance crews have not gotten to certain neighborhoods just yet.
"Coming back in the neighborhood over here, I noticed that the roads weren't plowed at all," says Jake Korfield.
If you live in a neighborhood that still needs some work, VDOT wants you to call them and let them who where you live. Call them at 5-1-1 or go to 511virginia.org.
