CHESTERFIELD (WRIC) - A birthday party goes wrong when a man who was kicked out returns with a gun while a family was inside.
Bullets were fired into a family's home early Sunday morning along Osborne Road. The family, which includes a 7 and 9-year-old, was fast asleep.
"We heard the shots," says Preston Akers. "I just hit the floor and I told my girlfriend to get down. About 5:00 in the morning, they came back and two shots. One shot went through the window."
It all started at a birthday party Saturday. But before the night was over, the people who lived there had to ask a few guys to leave when they thought the men stole money from someone's purse.
"We didn't figure they would come back and shoot up the house."
Chesterfield Police arrested and charged 20-year-old David Arterburn for shooting into the home and shattering the living room windows.
Everyone was asleep on the other side of the house where the bedrooms were.
Residents up and down the block jumped up out of bed when they heard the shots.
"I just heard four or five very quick pops," says one neighbor.
"Sure, you would duck too," says John Johnson. "You don't know what's going on. Didn't know if someone was shooting at somebody."
They're all grateful no one was hurt.
Two people were charged, but police have only arrested one person. 8News is still waiting for a response from police as to why.
