HENRICO (WRIC) - Most area students got another day off from school Wednesday and could get another day Thursday, but the breaks are hard on parents.
Some are happy to spend the extra time with their children while others are having a tough time managing their job on top of having the kids home.
Natalie Archibeque's kids have been to school one day since last Tuesday and though her family is making the most of it by going sledding, it's been tough on her and her husband.
"We're not looking for one more day off since they've had so much vacation," she says. "I'm a nurse and you can't just call in sick to work. You have to try and find someone to work for you and it's hard."
With more school closings and delays expected over the next few days, many working parents have turned to babysitters and daycares, but many of them are either booked or closed themselves.
But Archibeque has done her best to make it work and so have other parents.
"We've done a pretty good job of balancing it," says parent Rob Bullington. "I could see it being tough if it happened every day but then I guess you'd be living in Minneapolis and you'd figure it out."
Some parents like Mary Walker say the extra time off has been good for their families - especially in a fresh new layer of snow.
"It's a lot of fun," she says. "We don't get a lot of snow in Richmond and I don't know if we want to this every Wednesday, but so far so good."
