CHESTERFIELD (WRIC) - School was canceled for another day - meaning another day where many parents were scrambling to find childcare.
Many parents and kids have found the perfect cure for cabin fever - their neighborhood YMCA.
"Januarys are already really busy with resolutions and all that good stuff so the extra snow days have kept us a little bit busier," says Josh Green, Exec. Director, Swift Creek Family YMCA.
All area YMCAs have reported busier than normal numbers. More than 2,000 kids across Central Virginia are enrolled in YMCA daycares. That's more than any other daycare organization - and a number that continues to grow during the snow days.
"We see a lot of new faces in January anyway. We've brought in extra staff because we've just had more kids."
But even if the kids don't need daycare, parents like Ted St. Pierre say a trip to the Y is a great way for the family to kill some time when school is out.
"It's good to get them out and work some of that stress off," he says.
Leaders at the Y say their basketball courts have been booked solid as kids of all ages have needed a place to practice.
"Basketball's been really busy right now," Green says. "There's a lot of leagues in but schools are closed and they can't get their practice in."
The Swift Creek Y also says their membership numbers are growing, so for them, the more snow days, the better.
