HENRICO (WRIC) – The right and center lanes on I-64 West were closed at Parham Road Friday afternoon due to a water main break.
All lanes opened back up just before 4 p.m. but not
before anybody headed west from the city got stuck.
It took Henrico Public Works a half hour to 45 minutes to
shut the water off, but that doesn't mean they fixed the pipe.
The part of the main that is broken is actually up on Parham
Road and a crew is still working to fix that pipe.
As for why this happened, Henrico County isn't sure yet.
"An educated guess could be the cold, but we won't know
until we get access to the pipe and look at it," says Arthur Petrini, Director
of Public Utilities, Henrico County. "Could be old age. The bridge was
installed in 67 I don't know when the water pipe was installed."
This break only affects one small business and two
homeowners and it should be fixed by late Friday evening.
VDOT will apply salt to the area to prevent freezing overnight.
