PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) - A Petersburg firefighter has been arrested for a sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl.

John Wesley Hollowell was arrested by the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office on January 29 and charged with object sexual penetration, a Class 3 felony.

Hollowell is being held without bond at Meherrin River Regional Jail.

Chief Dennis Hale at Ford Fire and EMS in Dinwiddie says Hollowell volunteered at the station part-time, but he's been suspended during this ongoing investigation. The chief also says Hollowell was a fulltime firefighter in Petersburg.

The City of Petersburg released the following statement:

"City of Petersburg and Petersburg Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services administrators have no official information regarding the alleged arrest of firefighter John Hollowell. This is a personnel issue. The City's policy is not to discuss personnel issues."

Hollowell has been placed on administrative leave with pay by Petersburg Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services until the final outcome of the allegations made against him have been determined.
