CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)—On Wednesday, Chesterfield County Public Schools announced it will eliminate a holiday and two early-release days due to the nearly seven days of instruction students have missed this academic year due to inclement weather.
President's Day, Monday, Feb. 17, will now be a regular school and work day for CCPS students, teachers and staff. Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, March 26, originally scheduled as three-hour early-release days, will now also be regular school days.
"Missing so much class time disrupted our students' education," CCPS Superintendent Marcus Newsome said. "To keep students on pace with our curriculum, we must make up some of that missed time."
Due to various winter weather conditions, CCPS cancelled classes Jan. 21-24 and Jan. 29-30, and opened two hours late on Jan. 7-9 and Jan. 31.
