Anti-Abortion Groups Boycotting Girl Scouts Cookies

This year, some people are
boycotting Girl Scout cookies and urging others to do the same.
Pro-life groups claim the Girl
Scouts have a pro-abortion agenda.
In the last year, the
organization has posted links to articles about women such as Texas state
senator Wendy Davis and health and human services secretary Kathleen Sebelius,
who both support abortion rights.
But the scouts say they don't take positions on sensitive
issues like reproductive rights. They just wanted to encourage discussions on
women in the news.
"They get involved in
promoting and advocating for women's reproductive rights and we know exactly
what that stands for," says spokesperson Christy Gibbs. "We believe
these are issues best left within the confines of the family."
The scouts add that no
cookie money goes to outside organizations or causes.
Both sides hope anyone who
boycotts Girl Scout cookies will not talk about these issues with the children
out selling cookies.
